How this calculator works

Every figure in this calculator is the one published in the cost table on our new kitchen — supply & fit guide. Pick the option that matches your job and the calculator returns that published range, adjusted for your region - it does not model anything the guide does not already say.

That is deliberate. A calculator whose rates drift from the page it sits under is worse than no calculator, because two numbers on the same site disagree.

What it cannot know: access, the condition of what is already there, and anything structural. Those are what separate three real quotes from each other.

What actually moves a new kitchen quote

The calculator gives you a fair regional figure, but the spread inside it is wide for a reason. Roughly 30% of a typical bill is units and carcases, another 15–20% each for worktops and appliances, and 30–35% is labour. Change the mix and the total moves – sometimes by thousands – without the room getting any bigger.

Units are the first fork. Flat-pack carcases you assemble, or have assembled, are the cheapest; rigid pre-built units cost more but fit faster and sit squarer; bespoke cabinetry made to your walls is a different budget again. The door and drawer front you hang on those carcases matters as much as the box behind it, and soft-close runners, larder pull-outs and bin systems add up quietly across a full run.

Worktops and appliances are where people save or splurge. A laminate top and freestanding appliances keep a kitchen firmly in the budget band; quartz or granite with an integrated oven, hob, extractor and dishwasher push it toward the top. None of that changes the fitting labour much – it changes what the fitter is installing.

Then there’s the trade stack. A proper kitchen isn’t one job, it’s several in sequence: plumbing for the sink, dishwasher and any moved feeds; electrics for sockets, lighting, the hob and the cooker circuit; plastering where walls are made good; tiling for the splashback; and flooring last so it isn’t damaged. Each trade waits on the one before, and that sequencing – not just the day rates – is what drives the labour figure.

Moving services is the quiet multiplier. Keep the sink, hob and appliances roughly where they are and the pipework and wiring stay short. Shift the sink to the other wall or add an island with power and water, and you’re into new runs, chased walls, a longer first-fix and more making good afterwards. It rarely shows in a brochure price, but it’s often the difference between two quotes on the same room.

Get three written quotes and read what each one includes before you compare the totals. One fitter’s number might assume you supply the units; another might price making good, waste removal and a new consumer unit that the first left out.
