How this calculator works
Everything here is per linear metre. The fence type sets the base rate, then height and ground conditions are added to that rate — not as a lump sum — because both cost more on every post.
Gates are deliberately left out of the total. They are quoted each and range from £400 for a pedestrian gate to £2,000 for a double vehicle gate matching 3m mesh, so folding them into a per-metre rate would distort it.
Ask before you compare: whether the quote separates the fence run from the gates. One that does not is hiding something.

Security fencing calculator — FAQs
£35–£70 for chain link, £60–£120 for weldmesh, £75–£140 for palisade and £90–£160 for 358 mesh, at standard height into normal ground.
A welded mesh with apertures too small to get a finger or a jack into — 76mm by 12.7mm. It cannot practically be climbed or cut with hand tools.
Usually not below 2m, or 1m fronting a highway. Since most security fencing is 2.4m or taller, assume you need to check with the council.
£400–£2,000 depending on width and whether it is pedestrian or vehicle. Automating it is a separate job again.
