Price a panel clean in 30 seconds

4 steps. Covers panel count, roof height, access difficulty and whether there is moss or lichen to deal with.

How this calculator works

Cleaning is priced on access and panel count, not on how dirty the array looks. A cleaner spends the same time setting up for a lightly soiled roof as a filthy one, which is why the count and the height move the number far more than the condition does.

On yield: a genuinely dirty array in the UK loses roughly 3–8% of output, and heavy moss or bird fouling on the lower edge can cost more because it shades whole cell strings. If output has fallen much beyond that, the problem is a fault rather than dirt — price that on the repair calculator instead.

Figures match our solar panel cleaning guide. Never use a pressure washer on panels โ€” it drives water past the frame seals and can void the product warranty.

Solar cleaning calculator FAQs

Every two to three years for most homes. UK rainfall does much of the work on a pitched roof. Clean more often if you are under trees, near a main road or a field, or if the array sits at a shallow pitch where water sheets rather than runs.

Typically 3โ€“8% on a genuinely dirty array. Moss or bird fouling along the bottom edge can cost more than the percentage suggests, because shading part of a cell string drags down the whole string rather than just the shaded cells.

On a bungalow with a fed pole, carefully, yes. On a two-storey roof it is not worth it โ€” the fall risk is real and walking on panels can crack cells invisibly. Never use a pressure washer or detergent: both can breach the frame seals and void the warranty.

Rarely at UK soiling levels. An annual contract usually costs more than cleaning every two to three years as needed. Where they earn their keep is on ground-mounted arrays or under heavy tree cover.
