Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is this kitchen cost calculator?

It gives a realistic 2026 budget range, not a fixed quote. The figures use typical UK supply-and-fit rates by kitchen size, project scope and finish level, with a lowโ€“high band (roughly ยฑ15โ€“20%) to reflect real variation in units, worktops, appliances and your trades' rates. Treat it as a planning estimate โ€” your final price comes from an itemised quote after a site visit.

What's the difference between a facelift, a full refit and a new kitchen?

A facelift (new doors, handles and worktops while keeping the existing carcasses and layout) is the cheapest, around 30% of a full project. A full refit keeps the layout but replaces everything and is about 80% of a new kitchen. A new kitchen in the same layout is the baseline (100%), and a new kitchen with a layout change โ€” moving units, plumbing or walls โ€” adds roughly 45% for the extra plumbing, electrics and building work.

Why does the calculator show a price range instead of one figure?

Because two kitchens of the same size can differ widely on unit quality, worktop material, appliances and local labour rates. The low end reflects budget units and standard appliances; the high end reflects premium or bespoke units, stone worktops and integrated appliances. The range is the honest answer until a kitchen company prices your exact spec.

Does the estimate include appliances, worktops and fitting?

Yes โ€” it is a supply-and-fit budget covering units, worktops, standard appliances, fitting labour and VAT for the size and finish you choose. It excludes major structural work (e.g. removing a load-bearing wall), bespoke extras and any flooring or replastering beyond the kitchen area, which a quote would itemise separately.

What does choosing a higher finish level change?

Finish is a multiplier on the base cost: budget (flat-pack/entry units) is about 75% of standard, premium (solid doors, quartz or granite worktops, branded appliances) about 135%, and luxury (bespoke or in-frame kitchens with high-end appliances) around 170%. Changing only the finish, at the same size and layout, is the single biggest lever on your total.
