How This Calculator Works
This calculator combines your install type with real 2026 UK fitted pricing from Part-P / OZEV-approved electricians, then applies a regional labour multiplier. The single biggest cost swing on a home charger is rarely the unit itself but the electrical work around it: a long cable run from the meter, a consumer-unit or fuse upgrade, an earth-rod installation or a supply that needs load management to avoid tripping the main fuse can each add a few hundred pounds. A basic 7kW wall-mounted charger on a short run and a healthy supply sits at the bottom of the range, while a 22kW unit needs a three-phase supply most homes do not have. For the full breakdown see our EV charger installation cost guide, and when you are ready to compare fitters our EV charger quotes page matches you with vetted local installers.
Install Prices (fitted)
- 7kW — standard ~£900 (≤10m cable, existing supply)
- 7kW — longer run / tidy ~£1,250
- 7kW + consumer-unit upgrade ~£1,550
- 22kW / dual / commercial ~£2,100
Includes the charge point, standard cable run, protection and an electrical certificate (Part P).

What drives the cost of a home charger install
The charge point itself is rarely the reason two quotes differ. A basic 7kW unit on a short run from a healthy supply sits at the bottom of the range; the money goes on the electrical work around it. The biggest swings are the cable run from your consumer unit to the parking spot, whether that run has to be buried, trenched across a driveway or clipped neatly along a wall, and whether your fuse board has a spare way and enough headroom to take the load. Older boards often need an upgrade or a dedicated protective device, an outdated main earth may need an earth rod, and a supply already close to its limit can need load management so the charger eases off when the house is busy. A detached garage, a first-floor flat or a wall that needs scaffolding all add labour. A 22kW unit needs a three-phase supply that most homes do not have, so for a typical house a 7kW charger is the sensible choice.
There is real money off for some households. The government's EV chargepoint grant covers 75% of the cost of buying and installing a socket, up to £500, for flat owner-occupiers and people living in rented homes with off-street parking — the cap rose from £350 to £500 in April 2026. An approved installer claims it for you, and the eligibility rules change, so confirm it when you get a quote. If you are pairing a charger with panels, our solar panel cost guide covers charging from your own generation, and the EV charging hub matches you with vetted local installers quoting on the same spec.
